JEE Main Counselling & Seat Allotment

Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts the JEE Main counselling and seat allotment process. You have to register on the official website of JoSAA to participate in the counselling. Initially, JoSAA will conduct two mock rounds followed by seven rounds of counselling.

The mock rounds will help you to know the seats that you will be allotted based on your choices filling. The seat allotment process is done on the basis of the choices filled by the candidates during JoSAA registration.

Procedure of Counselling and Seat Allotment

The following are the steps to be followed by the candidates while participating in the counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main.

Step 1: Registration

First, you have to register in the JoSAA web portal.

Step 2: Choice Filling & Locking

You have to lock your college preferences and B.Tech courses. The seats will be allocated to the candidates on the basis of choices filled.

Step 3: Seat Allotment Process

Students will be allocated seats based on the availability of seats, preference and merit of the candidates. However, the mock allotment will be conducted by the exam authorities in two rounds before the actual seat allotment process.

Step 4: Fee Payment & Seat Acceptance

After the completion of the seat allotment process, you have have to select any one of the following options:

  1. Float: If you wish to keep the allotted seat and also want to upgrade your seat, choose this option.

  2. Freeze: If you are satisfied with the allocated seat and do not want to participate in further rounds of counselling, select this option.

  3. Slide: If you wish to accept the allotted seat and want to upgrade the programme in the same institute, select this option.

  4. Withdraw: If you have already accepted the seat allotted, you may withdraw the seat by reporting at the allotted institute before the final round of seat allotment.

Step 5: Documents and Certificate Verification

After successful fee payment, you have to verify your documents at the nearest help centres. Documents needed at the time of verification are:

  1. JoSAA seat allotment letter (Provisional)
  2. Three passport size photographs (the same as uploaded during registration)
  3. Photo identity card
  4. Proof of fee payment (seat acceptance)
  5. Proof of Date of birth
  6. JEE Main Admit Card
  7. Class 12 Mark sheet
  8. JEE Main Result/Score Card
  9. Category certificate (if applicable)

Step 6: Final reporting at the allocated Institution

Finally, you have to report at the allotted institute and pay the balance fees in the institute, confirm the admission after the verification process is completed.

Special Round Counselling

The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conducts a special round counselling after the conclusion of JoSAA seat allotment process for admission to vacant seats in IIITs, NITs and GFTIs. Candidates with a valid JEE Main score are eligible for the seat allotment process.
