JEE Main Reservation Criteria

The JEE Main reservation criteria is different for different institutions as well as varied from central government and state government.

In the case of Institutes run by the Central Government, the reservation would be applicable as:

  1. 15% of the seats Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates
  2. 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates
  3. 27% seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates as per the Central List
  4. 10% of the seats for General Economically Weaker Sections (General - EWS) candidates
  5. Persons with Disability (PwD) with 40% or more disability

Each category will have 5% reservations for the candidates with 40% or more disability. 

In the case of the Institutes run/ aided/ recognized by State Governments, the reservation policy of the respective State Governments is applicable.

IITs: All colleges of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) offer admissions under All India Quota basis.

NITs: The National institute of Technology or NITs offer admissions to students under State Quota and Other State Quota basis. In the admission process, 50% seats are reserved for candidates eligible for home state quota and the rest 50% seats are reserved for other state candidates.

GFTIs: Government Funded Technical Institutes or GFTIs offer admissions to students on All India Quota basis. However, there are some exceptions to this:

  • For Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and IIEST Shibpur - Admission will be given to candidates on the basis of home state quota and other state quota.
  • For Assam University, Silchar - The university will give admission to students on the basis of Home State Quota - candidates whose home state is Assam, and All India Quota - all candidates including home state candidates.
